1. What is your first thought when waking up in the
morning?
Ah, thats an easy one.... what did I do to deserve the
life im living. haha I know thats kind of deep and I dont necessarily always
think that, but a lot of the time I just take a moment to realise how fortunate
I am at the moment.
2. What was high school like for
you?
High school was pretty much the same standard as everyone
else... Like most people, I didnt necessarily love going to school but after
leaving, I did miss the social aspects of it like seing my mates every day, but
I definately didnt like the routine day in day out!
3. What is
more romantic: sunrise or sunset?
DEFINATELY sunset for me.... The
time when the air is still warm, but the sun has basically gone down and theres
just that stillness... thats perfect!
4. What side of your bed do
you sleep on?
ha! havent had that one before... I sleep on the
left side (if ur standing at the base of the bed facing it)
5.
If you could choose one food to live on for the rest of your life, what would it
be?
Im going to have to name a few.. Tim Tams, Mango's, and
Oysters Kilpatrick
6. What do you think about your hair? You
always seem to have it looking great, any tricks?
my hair?? haha,
I guess you have the makeup artists to thank for that. I wish I could take all
the credit, but we do have professionals that take care of all those aspects for
us before we step foot on set. But outside of work, I just keep it kind of
rough, but still in order... nothing too over the top. And if it helps, I use
American Crew Fibre... if anyone cares! haha
7. If you weren't
an actor, what else would you like to be doing?
This seems quite
random but I have this fascination with the special response teams in the police
force. Basically the guys that handle the counter-terrorism and hostage
situations... I think that would be an incredible job.
8. Are
there any appearances that you have with the show this year? (Are there any in
Brisbane/Perth?)
Yeh we have appearances all the time, but the
majority of them are organised by our agents, and only a few weeks in advance so
I dont know of any in Brisbane/Perth that are coming up. Ill keep u posted on
that one...
9. Jodi recently said she talked to a woman who
had been in the situation that Martha is in right now; did you do any research,
or speak to anyone for the abuse storyline? Or did you just try to understand
what was going on in Aden's head?
Good question... this is kind of
a hard one to explain for me. The thing is, I dont actually really know how I
get to the place that I need to be for these kinds of storylines... I didnt do
any specific research as such, but I did have extensive meetings with our drama
coach on getting into the head space that was needed for Aden. My biggest
dilemma was that I wanted to do as much justice to this storyline as humanly
possible, because I think its extremely important, particularly nowadays. I
actually based a majority of the work on instinct though... thats the best way I
can describe it. Getting into the head space and using mental images to put
myself in the situation and therefore try to understand what it must have been
like to go through what Aden has gone through.... and from there, just deliver
what comes naturally to me.
10. Which other character would
you like to be if you weren’t 'Aden'?
I think out of all the
characters I would probably choose to play Roman. Hes got the military
background which is interesting and hes quite a strong character in the show, so
he would be my choice.
11. Was it hard to become your
character, especially in the abuse storyline?
This is the part
that 99% of people dont understand when it comes to acting. The emotional drain
that I/we go through when we have to deliver a storyline like this is HUGE!!!
You are physically and psychologically exhausted after heavy scenes like dealing
with the abuse, and it also requires a lot of work to bring yourself up to that
point too. So when you say hard, its probably not the best way to explain it,
but more draining. Particularly because I wanted to do these scenes justice as I
mentioned before...it requires a lot more focus!
12. Would you be
friends with Aden?
haha, in all honesty, if I knew what he had
gone through, I would be. But from an outsiders perspective, without
understanding what has made him the way he is, I probably wouldnt be friends
with him.
13. What has been your favourite storyline to
portray?
From an acting perspective, the Abuse storyline has been
amazing to sink my teeth into. And on the other hand, the on-going storylines
with Aden and Belle are so much fun to be a part of so thats always a highlight
on set.
14. Does Aden get back with Belle? I'm dying to know!
(I’m sure he can’t say!)
..... I really wish I could tell you
guys, but were under pretty strict privacy not to say anything, but lets just
say Aden will be fighting for her!
15. Kate Richie left not
long after you became a permanent cast member, what was it like working with
someone of her experience, and did you learn anything off her?
As
you said, Kate left shortly after I arrived on the show and I didnt have that
many scenes with her while she was there. The thing I knew about Kate was her
dedication and focus with the show. Always extremely punctual and appeared to
care alot about her character and how her part affected the show. She was
extremely proud of home and away which is another thing I admire...
16. What was it like working so closely with Paul G and
Jess?
Paul Gleeson who played my father was absolutely incredible
to work opposite... he has had SO much experience in this industry and he just
gave so much as an actor, that allowed me to totally absorb myself in our scenes
and what our characters had to go through. I take my hat off to him. And jess,
shes an awesome actress!! Not once do I see her falter on the show, and we
always have so much fun together on set... Its so important that we get along
off set too because that helps build the chemistry between our characters on
screen... Its always a pleasure working with Jess...
17. Did
you enjoy shoving Linc around in scenes?
ahh, Link and I are
really close in real life so those scenes are always a crack up. We supposedly
hate each other on the show, but off set were really good mates!! Those scenes
are always fun to shoot, but half the time we are struggling just to keep a
straight face because we cant take each other seriously. But we both always look
forward to a good Aden and Geoff showdown!
18. Who have you
been star struck by, and why?
I havent really been star struck by
anyone yet, but it was a totally surreal experience being at the Logies last
year. You grow up watching it, and seing all these "stars" on our screens.... to
then be walking down the carpet myself, was pretty overwhelming. Meeting Rove
was a pretty big bonus too... and just being in the company of some of the
biggest actors in our country was just an amazing feeling.
19.
If you could be in a movie with two actors, one male, one female, who would they
be and why?
ha! All of my cast mates could answer the male actor
in this part... without a doubt, Leonardo Dicaprio - in my opinion, he is easily
the greatest actor of his generation and I just admire his work more than I can
explain! Every role he has done is delivered with such conviction and focus that
he can never be faltered in any scene he does!! My goal is to one day work with
him... And the female.... the be honest I dont actually have anyone specific in
mind. There are a lot of incredibly talented actresses out there... maybe Naomi
Watts, Cate Blanchett, working with that calibre of actresses would just lift
your performance so much!
20. Would you be game enough to do a
reality show like, “It Takes Two or Dancing with the Stars?”
At
the moment, probably not. Its not something thats hugely up my alley. I think
they are great shows and ive had some really close friends be a part of them,
but they arent really for me.
21. Have you ever read a
magazine, or heard a story and stepped back and go “oh, that’s
me!”?
haha YES!! To be honest, I dont think I will ever get used
to the hype and attention that actors receive. At times its really
uncomfortable, but its always this totally surreal feeling when you see yourself
in mags or talked about in columns. It kind of feels like its not me they're
talking about... I had a very humble up-bringing and none of my family are part
of the industry so its all quite new to me. I dont ever worry about losing my
feet off the ground because I take everything with a grain of salt, and dont
take myself too seriously and dont let it get to me. All I want to be known for
is being a good actor, so thats what I keep my focus on.
22. I
know you’ve said that watching yourself is weird, have you even seen a clip and
gone, “oh gosh! I hope no one see’s that!”?
Oh yeh, I think every
single actor on the planet has scenes they wish they could go back and re-shoot.
But on the other hand, I put a LOT of time and work into my character and
scenes, which in turn cuts down the amount of scenes that your not happy with.
If the work has been put in, which I do, then 99% of the time im proud of what
comes across. Fingers crossed I can keep on saying that for my whole
career!!
23. How do you brave the surf in winter? It’d have to
be freezing!
haha, I dont!!! For the show, in the winter, we just
have to toughen up and get through it, make it look like were having a great
time! But outside of work, im off the beach for a few months while the weather
is a joke.. but trust me, the minute winter ends, i pretty much live at the
beach!!
A Quick Message from the man himself to all of the
members!
I just wanted to finish by thanking everyone for sending in
their questions!! I have actually had a chance to go through and read some of
the feedback ive had on these sites and it is truly humbling to hear what people
have to say about my work!! It makes my job all the more sweeter and believe me,
your kind words are heard!! I take my job extremely seriously so to hear that my
efforts are paying off, is one of the most rewarding things a person can hear!
So I just wanted to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for their
feedback and support...it means a lot to me!
Cheers,
